The fifth grade social studies classes wrapped up their Life in the 13 Colonies Unit with a colonial days celebration. Students created colonial toys which they shared and competed with classmates, and they enjoyed a colonial treat, johnny cakes.

Students in Mrs. Courtright's grades 5th-8th grade social studies classes recently had the opportunity to enter the Elks Patriotism Essay Contest. Congratulations to those Rockets who won the local contest and now advance to the district level. Selmaville swept the fifth grade division with Max Bookhout placing 1st, Khaeler Williams 2nd and Greyson James 3rd. In the sixth grade division, Gia Ward took 1st place. Finally, Dylann Rosenthal placed 1st and Gabby Gaston placed 2nd in the seventh grade division. Great job, Rockets!

When life gives you snow...you use it to inspire creativity! The jr high students recently held a snowman house competition. Students were encouraged to use items from around the house to create a home for a little snowman. Students and staff then voted on their favorite creations. Bella Bodeker won the Student Choice Award while Alana Howe won the Staff Pick Award. Great job, ladies!

Selmaville students recently showed off their spelling skills. Students in 4th-8th grades competed in a grade level spelling bee. The top two spellers for each grade level advanced to the school wide spelling bee held on January 31. Those top ten finalists included Brice Telford & Thayne Gowler (4th), Max Bookhout & Grey Garden (5th), Izac Holsapple & Isaac Knapp (5th), Dylann Rosenthal & Grace Rau (7th), and Avery East & London Robbers (8th). London Robbers took 1st place and Isaac Knapp took 2nd place in our school spelling bee. They now advance to the county spelling bee to be held later this month.

Good afternoon - this is Selmaville Superintendent Brittany Boldt Due to the forecasted extreme cold temperature and poor road conditions, Selmaville School will be having an E - Learning day tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th. We are not comfortable with kids standing at bus stops and / or riding to / from school in these temperatures. We are also ensuring our staff driving to / from school are safe as well. Elementary students should work on their snow packets that have already been sent home - elementary teachers will be accessible via email/Dojo tomorrow to answer any questions parents may have. Junior High School students will be participating in E - Learning activities - teachers will follow up with schedules and more detailed information. Please remember - attendance is mandatory on all E - Learning days. All extra-curricular activities have been cancelled.
